Training Workshops

FMC Technologies provides comprehensive training for customers worldwide. Our training schools reflect the experience and knowledge gained from 90 years of working in the oil and gas industry. The classes are taught by the same measurement specialists that design, engineer and service our equipment. FMC Technologies products are renowned for their high level of quality, and our customers have come to know that FMC Technologies' training schools meet the quality standard set by our products.

We offer classes either at the customer's location using the customer's own system or at our facilities in the United States, Germany and Norway. The training workshops utilize our demonstration equipment and simulators to provide an in-depth, hands-on experience in a factory environment.

General Metering:
Pre-requisites: Basic technical education and basic industry knowledge/experience.

Overview: The course provides a broad overview of metering and will give participants a basic understanding of the fundamentals of hydrocarbon measurement along with industry terminology, definitions, and standards.

Topics covered include: Introduction to fundamentals of measurement, definitions, and standards, properties and flow theory, gas and liquid measurement, current meter technology and applications, sampling, flow computers and control systems, and measurement uncertainty. 


Oil/Condensate Metering:
Pre-requisites: Basic metering knowledge. It is suggested that participants understand basic liquid metering and metering process control systems.

Overview: This course provides a special focus on liquid metering and will give participants a basic understanding of the fundamentals of liquid hydrocarbon measurement along with industry terminology, definitions, and standards.

Topics covered include: Introduction to fundamentals of measurement, definitions and standards, properties and flow theory, liquid measurement, current meter technology and applications, meter proving and provers, sampling, flow computers and control systems, and measurement uncertainty.


Fiscal Gas Metering:
Pre-requisites: Basic metering knowledge. It is suggested that participants understand basic gas metering and metering process control systems.

Overview: This course provides a special focus on gas metering and will give participants a basic understanding of the fundamentals of gas hydrocarbon measurement along with industry terminology, definitions, and standards.

Topics covered include: Introduction to fundamentals of measurement, definitions and standards, properties and flow theory, gas measurement, current meter technology and applications, sampling, flow computers, and control systems, and measurement uncertainty.


Rules and Regulations Regarding Fiscal Metering Of Oil and Gas:
Pre-requisites: It is assumed that course participants are familiar with construction and operation of the overall process control system and current measurement systems.

Overview: The course will give participants knowledge about rules, standards, and regulations.  It will also provide an understanding of the purpose and help participants become familiar with the words and phrases given in the standards and regulations.

Topics covered include: Applicable rules, standards, and regulations for regulated installations and platforms.


Calculations for Fiscal Metering:
Pre-requisites: It is assumed that course participants are familiar with construction and operation of the overall process control system, and current measurement systems. In addition, they have undergone general flow measurement training. General process knowledge is also beneficial.

Overview: The course will provide participants knowledge and understanding of the various factors contributing to the international standards for quantity calculations of stabilized crude oil and natural gas.

Topics covered include: Calculations within the metering system.


Fiscal and Process Analyzer Principles and Methods:
Pre-requisites: It is assumed that course participants are familiar with construction and operation of the overall process control system. General process knowledge is also beneficial.

Overview: The course will give participants knowledge, both theoretical and practical, about analysis principles and different analyzer methods.

Topics covered include: The behavior, structure, properties of gas/fluid and how temperature, pressure, and sample handling affects measurement.


Metering Systems Basic Theory:
The course gives participants an understanding of basic metering theory and practical information related to the specific system(s) in the customer's installed base.  Basic theory courses are typically provided as part of, or as an additional service to, a new system sales.  Target audience is: operations managers, operators, measurement technicians, mainenance technicians, and others who require general knowledge regarding metering processes and fiscal measurement.

Metering Systems Operations & Maintenance:
These courses will give participants and understanding of basic operation and maintenance theory and practical information related to the specific system(s) in the customer's installed base.  Target audience is: operations managers, operators, measurement technicians, maintenance technicians, and others who require general knowledge regarding the basic theory of operation and maintenance programs and guidelines for routine maintenance and calibration of fiscal measurement systems.

Metering Systems Technical Competency Training:
This training is a new concept aimed at clients with an existing installed base and an on-staff team of operations and maintenance personnel.  Development of these training programs will result from close customer interaction with our team to assess the current skills and competencies of client's staff against "industry norms" for the practical level of the technician(s).  After assessment, FMC Technologies and the client will develop a systematic program tailored to a group or individuals' needs to facilitate teaching and learning of required skills and competencies to a level defined by the client.
